Driver Contacts: Parents are asked to contact their bus driver if their child(ren) will not ride on a morning route. When students do not ride, it may change the times the drivers pick up other students, as well as change the way a route is driven. Drivers will give parents/guardians their preferred method of contact. If you do not have your driver’s contact information, all MCS drivers have an email address which can be found on the school website under the Transportation link. Drivers will also be available to meet parents and students at the Elementary School Open House on Wednesday, August 25 from 4-6 p.m. Parents who need to make bus changes after 6:30 a.m. should contact the school at 989-367-8300. Attention Junior and Senior Students: Prom is fast approaching, and tickets will go on sale Monday, April 5. I was hoping that by this time we would have better news in terms of Covid restrictions. However, it appears that we are trending backwards and for that reason the number of tickets is limited. Therefore, the following stipulations are being put in place. You may not purchase tickets until your Covid and/or guest forms have been completed and turned into Mrs. Behnke. Your guest passes MUST be filled out by the school the student is attending and it must indicate their grade level/age. I will contact the school of record for verification if questions arise. NO guests 21 years of age or older are allowed. Only Juniors and Seniors are allowed to purchase tickets. If you have an underclassmen guest, you will NOT be able to purchase a ticket for them unless there are remaining tickets. In which case, they will be given out on a first come first serve basis. This means they will be sold in the order in which you purchased your ticket and indicated you would possibly like to bring an underclassmen guest. You may not transfer or resell your tickets to someone else. We must have exact records of who will be in attendance at prom. If for any reason you cannot attend and have already purchased a ticket, I will refund your ticket up until April 23rd. Tickets will be sold from Monday, April 5th through Friday, April 23rd (or until we are sold out). The cost is $40 per person. If you or your parents have any questions or concerns about this policy, please have them contact me at kbehnke@marletteschools.org. Do NOT contact the High School office, Mr. Sorentino, or Mrs. Barratt. This is a prom that is put on by the Junior Class and as the class sponsor, I am responsible for all decisions made regarding prom.

From Band Director Mr. Yaros: Dear Fans of Marlette Band, I wrestled with this decision. On one hand, I know that many of you created special time in your schedule far in advance to make this concert happen for you and your families, but on another hand, we have a good number of students out. If it were a HS Band concert, I might proceed, but since this is the FIRST concert for many of our 6th graders, I put it on a pedestal a bit. It is so much fun, and such a special event - I don't want any of our students to miss out. Look for a reschedule date soon - probably early April or May! Sorry again, folks. COVID stinks.

Avoid parking on the sidewalks or in the drive at the end of the day. The sidewalks and drive are a NO PARKING zone and you may be issued a citation. Marlette School Board Seeks Input in Superintendent Search The Marlette Board of Education has begun the search process to find a new superintendent. Assisting the Board is the Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB), a service organization that supports the work of school boards throughout Michigan. As the profile of the ideal candidate is developed, the boards are soliciting community and staff input. Residents of the district, all staff and administration are encouraged to participate in the process. An online survey is available at this URL: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/marlettesearch (This link can also be found under the News Section on the MCS Website) Survey responses are sent directly to MASB in Lansing for tabulation. The Board will publicly consider the input received and develop a Candidate Profile, which will guide the process as candidates are recruited and selected for public interview. The board expects to select the new superintendent to begin July 2021.

More than 340 schools statewide were awarded the Building Healthy Communities (BHC) program, designed to improve children’s health. Both of our schools received this $1,000 grant! Special thanks to Krislene Kemp, Sarah Barratt, Joan Helwig, Lindsay Theobald, and Tammy Major at the high school and Jamie Zuhlke and Raeann Gentner at the elementary for completing the necessary documents to qualify for this opportunity. https://www.mibluesperspectives.com/news/341-michigan-k-12-schools-awarded-building-healthy-communities-program-to-improve-childrens-health/ #RedRaiderNation #BuildingHealthyCommunities

There was some confusion about buses running next week for career center. We are running a career center bus as usual. If students need a ride in for AM career center, they may ride their usual bus to the school, but they will need to be picked up upon returning from career center. PM career center students will need a ride to the school to ride the bus over to the career center and may ride their usual bus home upon their return in the afternoon. #BearWithUs #Sorry

Just a reminder now that buses are on the road again......When the red overhead lights are flashing, stop at least 20 feet from the school bus. Remain stopped until the flashing red lights are turned off. All lanes must stop on a four- lane highway that DOES NOT HAVE A BARRIER (i.e. M-53 four-lane areas). However, it is not necessary to stop for a school bus stopped on the other side of a divided highway where the road is SEPARATED BY A BARRIER, such as a concrete or grass median, island, or other structures that separate the flow of traffic.
