Attention Junior and Senior Students: Prom is fast approaching, and tickets will go on sale Monday, April 5. I was hoping that by this time we would have better news in terms of Covid restrictions. However, it appears that we are trending backwards and for that reason the number of tickets is limited. Therefore, the following stipulations are being put in place. You may not purchase tickets until your Covid and/or guest forms have been completed and turned into Mrs. Behnke. Your guest passes MUST be filled out by the school the student is attending and it must indicate their grade level/age. I will contact the school of record for verification if questions arise. NO guests 21 years of age or older are allowed. Only Juniors and Seniors are allowed to purchase tickets. If you have an underclassmen guest, you will NOT be able to purchase a ticket for them unless there are remaining tickets. In which case, they will be given out on a first come first serve basis. This means they will be sold in the order in which you purchased your ticket and indicated you would possibly like to bring an underclassmen guest. You may not transfer or resell your tickets to someone else. We must have exact records of who will be in attendance at prom. If for any reason you cannot attend and have already purchased a ticket, I will refund your ticket up until April 23rd. Tickets will be sold from Monday, April 5th through Friday, April 23rd (or until we are sold out). The cost is $40 per person. If you or your parents have any questions or concerns about this policy, please have them contact me at kbehnke@marletteschools.org. Do NOT contact the High School office, Mr. Sorentino, or Mrs. Barratt. This is a prom that is put on by the Junior Class and as the class sponsor, I am responsible for all decisions made regarding prom.

From Band Director Mr. Yaros: Dear Fans of Marlette Band, I wrestled with this decision. On one hand, I know that many of you created special time in your schedule far in advance to make this concert happen for you and your families, but on another hand, we have a good number of students out. If it were a HS Band concert, I might proceed, but since this is the FIRST concert for many of our 6th graders, I put it on a pedestal a bit. It is so much fun, and such a special event - I don't want any of our students to miss out. Look for a reschedule date soon - probably early April or May! Sorry again, folks. COVID stinks.

Marlette School Board Seeks Input in Superintendent Search The Marlette Board of Education has begun the search process to find a new superintendent. Assisting the Board is the Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB), a service organization that supports the work of school boards throughout Michigan. As the profile of the ideal candidate is developed, the boards are soliciting community and staff input. Residents of the district, all staff and administration are encouraged to participate in the process. An online survey is available at this URL: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/marlettesearch (This link can also be found under the News Section on the MCS Website) Survey responses are sent directly to MASB in Lansing for tabulation. The Board will publicly consider the input received and develop a Candidate Profile, which will guide the process as candidates are recruited and selected for public interview. The board expects to select the new superintendent to begin July 2021.

Today is our district's turn to receive the COVID-19 vaccine for all staff and eligible immediate family members. There have been several concerns raised in neighboring districts, so we wanted to assure everyone that we are aware of every person entering our building and have a plan in place to keep everyone safe. If students need a ride in for AM career center, they may ride their usual bus to the school, but they will need to be picked up upon returning from career center. PM career center students will need a ride to the school to ride the bus over to the career center and may ride their usual bus home upon their return in the afternoon. #BearWithUs #Sorry

Just a reminder now that buses are on the road again......When the red overhead lights are flashing, stop at least 20 feet from the school bus. Remain stopped until the flashing red lights are turned off. All lanes must stop on a four- lane highway that DOES NOT HAVE A BARRIER (i.e. M-53 four-lane areas). However, it is not necessary to stop for a school bus stopped on the other side of a divided highway where the road is SEPARATED BY A BARRIER, such as a concrete or grass median, island, or other structures that separate the flow of traffic.

Marlette Jr./Sr. High School Students & Parents, I hope this message finds you and your family staying safe and healthy. Since the Governor's Executive Order last Thursday, the staff at Marlette Jr./Sr. High School has been collaborating to develop a remote learning plan to best meet the needs of our students. We thank you all for your patience as we worked through this development process that has been uncharted territory for us all. We are aware of the varying levels of technology accessibility within our school community, and we have devised a plan to address those differences. Our plan aims to assist students with their emotional, social, and academic needs during this unprecedented time. The upcoming journey is new to us all, so we know there will be some 'bumps in the road.' Do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher(s) or me with any questions or concerns you have. If your child is able to, please encourage your child to check their school issued Google Email account daily for more information and teacher instructions. We will work through this together! Attached below are the following     - Explanation video for 7-11 grade remote learning plan - Remote learning plan for 7-11 graders (PDF version)  - Explanation video for 12 grade remote learning plan - Remote learning plan for 12 graders (PDF version)   - Jr./Sr. High staff contact information during remote learning time Thank you for your support and patience, Principal Garnett Kohler Go Red Raiders!   7-11 https://youtu.be/UgvGvW0u-Nw https://drive.google.com/file/d/1y2uRXAz_LyynvmOVd4qOup3YDy1WFjtY/view?usp=sharing 12- https://youtu.be/UxDw7d5kDaI https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LpNuyopLHAh2A_t1MtfhVE8UnaYlPTtR/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qrzc1fCMaP4GMvQXxhMFxL1AJ4TbVlVm/view?usp=sharing

Hello families! Marlette Jr/Sr High School wanted to give an amazing project that you can do together as a family. You can create a tessellation which combines art with math! One of the most famous artists who combined math and art was MC Escher. You can check out his designs for inspiration or learn more about him in the links below. There are 2 main types of tessellations: a translation of the created object which just slides the object up/down and left/right or a rotational tessellation which “spins” the object. Check out the links below to see how to create the tessellations and then try one for yourself. Color and decorate them with your great imaginations! Take a picture of your creation and post it to the Marlette Community Schools’ Facebook page for an opportunity to win a gift card to one of our amazing local businesses. Good Luck and Happy Tessellating! Happy Friday #RedRaiderNation, As most of you are aware, the Governor's Executive Order suspended in-person K-12 instruction for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. To allow our fabulous MCS staff to prepare for the extended school closure, we will NOT be distributing new materials during the week of April 6th. Instead, next week MCS will be posting daily "challenges" to students and families through our district's social media outlets. The "challenges" will be family oriented and aimed at keeping students engaged in learning and exploring. Please post your pictures to our district Facebook page once your students complete the daily "challenges." From those posts, we will randomly select daily winners that will be awarded gift cards to local businesses. Let's all enjoy learning together! Additionally, the MCS staff is busy preparing our educational plan as we transition to remote learning for the remainder of the school year. The anticipated start date of our plan is April 13th. More details will be communicated next week. We thank you for your patience as we work to create a plan that best serves our students' academic, social, and emotional needs.

Hi High School Families, I hope you and your families are staying healthy and safe. I know that with school closing, many of you who wanted to order a yearbook probably did not get a chance to do so. Even with the school closing, we will still have a completed yearbook to commemorate your year. I will still be able to take yearbook orders over the next couple of weeks. Just email me and let me know if you want a book. If you and your parents are able to pay now, that would be great. Checks can be made out to Marlette Community Schools and sent to my home address 5262 Martus Rd. North Branch, MI 48461 If you are unable to make payment at this time, that is fine. I can collect money when the books arrive. Thanks, Mr. Barrows (sbarrows@marletteschools.org)

Good Afternoon Marlette Community Schools Families! We hope you are all doing well and have reached out for support if needed. Although we do not know at this time what the rest of the school year will look like, in an effort to be proactive, we have created a technology survey to help us gather information about the needs of our Marlette Schools community. Please take a moment to complete this short survey so that we can utilize the information as we plan for next steps. We hope to hear more from the Governor and our Michigan Department of Education tomorrow to help guide us moving forward. Once we know more and have your responses, we will have a plan ready by early next week. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfcdgJY-NtG2-_H50TxVfLX7_P12vdRRUNjE7Enxm_9NI4p0w/viewform?fbclid=IwAR1lhBlC5JLGc0J6frw_ZGGwal_PrG_LmnvSiZVYQpjY0XmbeQCSn5KbiLI Thank you for all you are doing to support your children during this unprecedented time in our nation's history.
